Johan Gustav Christoffer Kjeldahl

Kjeldahl, Johan Gustav Christoffer 

Born Aug. 16, 1849, in Jaegerspris; died July 18, 1900, in Tisvilde. Danish chemist.

Kjeldahl was head of the Carlsberg Laboratory in Copehagen from 1876. In 1883 he proposed a method of determining the amount of nitrogen in organic substances, which is known as the Kjeldahl method. Kjeldahl also studied the properties of enzymes and the optical activity of protein bodies.
