    0.01 sec.
Sirén, Johan

Born May 27, 1889, in Ylihärmä, near the city of Vaasa; died Mar. 5, 1961, in Helsinki. Finnish architect.

Sirén studied in Helsingfors (Helsinki) at the Institute of Technology. He was a professor at the institute from 1931 to 1957. In the 1920’s he was the leader of Finnish neoclassicism. Sirén’s buildings are characterized by strict symmetry, the use of large forms to organize space, and simplicity. Classical orders are marked by an emphasis on their geometric features, and their vertical orientation is stressed. [23–1332–]
