John Brown Farm State Historic Site Location: On John Brown Road, off Route 73, 2 miles south of Lake Placid. Facilities: Historic house, picnic ares, trails, scenic views. Activities: Guided and self-guided tours, reenactments, hiking, cross-country skiing. Special Features: Site preserves the home and grave of abolitionist John Brown. On October 16, 1859, Brown and his followers assaulted the US Arsenal at Harper's Ferry, planning to use the captured arms for the liberation of the slaves in the South.
