John Bryan State Park Location: 27 miles from Dayton, in the southwest part of the state. Facilities: 99 campsites (10 with electricity), group camp, rent-a-teepee, picnic areas, picnic shelters, hiking trails (9 miles), rock climbing area. Activities: Camping, fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, sledding, bow hunting, rock climbing. Special Features: The history of the park is told in the rocks of the Little Miami River Gorge. Entering the area at Clifton at 980 feet above sea level, the Little Miami drops 130 feet through layer upon layer of bedrock. Each layer has its own characteristics: some are easily worn away by erosion, causing undercutting in the cliff face; more erosion-resistant dolomite or limestone rocks above are weakened by this undercutting and slump blocks fall away creating unusual rock formations. Waterfalls and cascades are common. Address: 3790 State Rt 370 Yellow Springs, OH 45387 Phone: 937-767-1274; Web: www.ohiodnr.com/parks/parks/jhnbryan.htm Size: 752 acres. See other parks in Ohio.
