Hunt, John 

Born June 22, 1910, in Simla, India. British mountaineer; retired brigadier general. Member of the House of Lords.

Hunt graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. From the 1930’s to the 1950’s he climbed many peaks in the Alps, the Himalayas, and the Caucasus. He was the leader of the British expedition that included E. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, which in 1953 was the first to reach the summit of Chomolungma (Mount Everest). For this achievement. Hunt was knighted. In 1962, Hunt led a British-Soviet expedition in the Pamirs that climbed Communism Peak.
