John Martin Reservoir State Park Location: From the East: US 50 west 20 miles to Hasty, then south on School Street for 2 miles. From the West: US 50 east 20 miles from La Junta to Las Animas, continue through Las Animas 16 miles to Hasty, then south on School Street for 2 miles. Facilities: 213 campsites, 163 electrical/sewer hookups, showers, laundry, group campground, 17 picnic areas, 3 group picnic areas, trails, 2 boat ramps, restrooms, visitor/nature center (é). Activities: Camping, hiking, mountain biking, boating, fishing, jet skiing, sailboarding, swimming, water-skiing, cross-country skiing/snowshoeing, ice fishing, ice skating, winter camping, interpretive programs. Special Features: Located in the Lower Arkansas River Valley in southeastern Colorado, John Martin is a large reservoir that accommodates all forms of water recreation. The park also supports a diverse community of wildlife and is a nesting place for the threatened piping plover and endangered interior least tern from mid-April to late August each year. Bald eagles can be seen here in the winter months.
