McKinley, John

McKinley, John (1780–1852) Supreme Court justice; born in Culpeper County, Va. He served the Alabama legislature (1820, 1831), the U.S. Senate (Dem., Ala.; 1826, 1836), and the U.S. House of Representatives (Dem., Ala.; 1832). He was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Martin Van Buren (1838–52).
