Johor Baru (jōhôr` bär`  , jə–) or Johor Baharu (jōhôr` bəhär`, jə–), city (1991 pop. 561,071), capital of Johor Johor or Johore (jōhôr`, jə–), state (1991 pop...... It is a trade center for rubber and tropical produce. The seat of the sultan of Johor is in Johor Baru; his residence, Bakit Serene, contains priceless art treasures. The population of the city is mainly Chinese. |
