Joly photometer [¦jäl·ē fō′täm·əd·ər]

(optics)

A photometer consisting of two equal paraffin wax or opal glass blocks separated by a thin opaque sheet; the positions of two light sources under comparison are adjusted until the two blocks appear equally bright. Also known as wax-block photometer.
