Jones, Louis C. (Clark) (1908– ) folklorist; born in Albany, N.Y. He was a literature professor before becoming founding director of the Cooperstown (N.Y.) Farmers' Museum (1946–72), which he developed into a leading museum of rural life. There he originated the Seminars on American Culture (1948). A specialist in New York state folklore, 18th-century social history, and American folk art, he directed the State University of New York's Cooperstown graduate programs (1964–82).
