Jones, Mary Cover

Jones, Mary Cover (1896–1987) psychologist; born in Johnstown, Pa. She studied at Vassar and Columbia University, where she met fellow psychologist Harold Ellis Jones. They were married in 1920. She did important research in developmental psychology and worked with behaviorist John B. Watson. In 1924 she published a landmark study on deconditioning fear. She and Jones conducted research at the University of California: Berkeley (from 1927) and organized the long-term Oakland Growth Study on adolescents.
