Jones, Robert Trent, Sr.

Jones, Robert Trent, Sr. (1906–  ) golf course architect; born near Ince, England. He came to the U.S.A. in 1911 and studied at Cornell University (1927–30). He worked in partnership with the Canadian architect, Stanley Thompson, during 1930 to 1940 and then worked on his own (1940). He designed more than 400 of the world's outstanding golf courses. He wrote Great Golf Stories, Golf's Magnificent Challenge (1988). His son, Robert Trent Jr., worked in the same field, designing more than 100 golf courses.
