Joost

Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Joost
A peer-to-peer TV (P2P TV) system for streaming video over the Internet, developed by Skype and Kazaa founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis. Pronounced "juiced," with its name having no particular meaning in Scandinavian countries (like Haagen Dazs), Joost introduced beta clients for Windows and Mac in 2007.

A Unique Hybrid
Joost is a hybrid peer-to-peer system because it relies on both central servers for downloading content as well as the users' machines. At any given time, Joost viewers may have about eight seconds of encrypted video in their computers, and that content is automatically streamed to other users requesting it. For more information, visit www.joost.com. See P2P TV.
