Name Origin: For either Josephine Rollins (1835-c.1911), daughter of the leader of a wagon train bound for California and first white woman to settle in the county, or for Josephine Creek, which was also named in her honor. Area (sq mi): 1641.63 (land 1639.59; water 2.04). Pop per sq mi: 49.30. Pop 2005: 80,761. State rank: 11. Pop change: 2000-20005 6.60%; 1990-2000 20.90%. Pop 2000: 75,726 (White 91.40%; Black or African American 0.30%; Hispanic or Latino 4.30%; Asian 0.60%; Other 5.30%). Foreign born: 3.10%. Median age: 43.10.
