Joubert, Barthélemy Catherine
Born Apr. 14, 1769, at Pont de Vaux; died Aug. 15, 1799, at Novi. French general. Joubert studied at the University of Dijon, which he left in 1791 in order to volunteer for the army. He fought in Italy, where he was made a brigadier general in 1795 on account of his bravery and was made a general of division for his role in Bonaparte’s Italian campaign of 1796–97. The French troops under his command occupied the Tirol. From 1797 to 1799 he commanded the Dutch, the Meuse, and the Italian armies.
