Jouett, Matthew (Harris) (?1787/88–1827) painter; born in Mercer County, Ky. He studied with Gilbert Stuart in Boston (1816), and became a noted portraitist of the era. He spent most of his life in Lexington, Ky., and his subjects included the Marquis de Lafayette and Henry Clay.
