Hanukkah commemorates the victory 2,165 years ago by Judah Maccabee and his followers over the forces of Syrian Antiochus Ephiphanes, and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem that the Syrians had profaned. In a dream, he becomes Judah Maccabee and he fights to win religious freedom for the Hebrews. A Talmudic account maintains that when Judah Maccabee, who led the Jewish soldiers, regained the temple, he only found enough oil to burn for only one day. |
