Judas, in the Bible. 1 See Jude, Saint Jude, Saint, or Saint Judas [Jude is an English form to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot], in the New Testament, one of the Twelve Apostles, also called Thaddaeus. He is thought to have been the son or brother of St. James the Less. 2 Judas Maccabeus: see Maccabees Maccabees or Machabees (both: măk`əbēz), Jewish family of the 2d and 1st cent. B.C. 3 See Judas Iscariot Judas Iscariot (ĭskâr`ēət) 4 See Judah 1 In the Bible he is the fourth son of Jacob and Leah and the eponymous ancestor of one of the 12 tribes of Israel. In the Book of Genesis, Judah emerges as a leader.
