Jüldïz
(Star), a literary and public-affairs journal; the organ of the Writers’ Union of the Kazakh SSR. Published since 1928 in Alma-Ata in Kazakh, the journal has changed its name several times: at first it was Jana adebiet (New Literature); in the early 1930’s it was renamed Adebiet maydanï (Literary Front) and in 1957 Jüldïz. The journal reflects the growth of Soviet Kazakh literature, the search for new means of expression, and the development of new forms and genres. Circulation, about 180,000 (1972).
