Junker, Hermann 

Born Nov. 29, 1877, in Bendorf; died Jan. 9, 1962, in Vienna. Egyptologist.

Junker became a professor at the University of Vienna in 1909. From 1929 to 1938 he served as director of the Cairo Branch of the German Archaeological Institute and as a professor at the University of Cairo. He was a member of several academies of sciences, including those of Austria (1919), Prussia (1922), Bavaria (1932), and Saxony (1957). From 1910 to 1912 he conducted a series of excavations in northern Nubia. For most of the period from 1912 to 1929, Junker directed excavations in Giza.
