Geography a round hill or knoll or morainic ridge knob [näb] (design engineering) A component that is placed on a control shaft to facilitate manual rotation of the shaft; sometimes has a pointer or markings to indicate shaft position. (geology) A rounded eminence, such as a knoll, hillock, or small hill or mountain, and especially a prominent or isolated hill with steep sides. A peak or other projection at the top of a hill or mountain. knob 1. A handle, more or less spherical, usually for operating a lock. 2. A similar protuberance, useful or ornamental, such as a boss.
