Kabyles

Kabyles (kəbīlz`), people, predominantly agricultural, of North Africa, whose center is the rugged Kabylia region of Algeria. Of uncertain origin, they form one of the larger divisions of the Berbers Berbers, aboriginal Caucasoid peoples of N Africa, called Imazighen in the Tamazight language. They inhabit the lands lying between the Sahara and the Mediterranean Sea and between Egypt and the Atlantic Ocean.

. Known for their fierce resistance to the successive conquerors of the region, they were slow to adopt the Muslim religion and Arabic speech and in Great Kabylia (the central and southern region of Algeria) they still retain their vernacular.
Kabyles 

a Berber people inhabiting the mountainous areas of northern Algeria. They number about 1, 300, 000 (1970, estimate). Their language is related to the Berber languages, and the majority of the Kabyles also speak Arabic. They are Sunni Muslims. Their principal occupations are agriculture and livestock raising.

The Imazighen, and the Kabyles in particular, represent a spirit of resistance not only to colonial powers but to social injustice, oppressive demagogues, and religious extremists.
No publication data is cited for the original Signes et rituels magiques des femmes kabyles.
Unfortunately, the kabyles or tribes of the Rift, resentful of Spain but willing to live and let live so long as the Spanish stayed on the coast, actively, savagely, bloodily and fairly successfully resisted early Spanish moves.
