Kachkanar

a city (settlement prior to 1968) in SverdlovskOblast, RSFSR, lying 106 km north of Nizhnii Tagil, and south-east of the Kachkanar mountain massif. It is the terminus of abranch of the Perm’-Goroblagodatskaia railroad line. Population, 33, 000 (1970). There is an ore-dressing combine (mining and dressing of iron ore), using raw materials from large localdeposits of titanium and magnetite ores. The annual output of the combine is 33 million tons of iron ore. The combine has beenin operation since 1963.

Kachkanar

a mountain massif in the northern Central Urals, in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, with an elevation of 878 m. It is composed of igneous rock (gabbro, peridotites, pyroxenites), with which are associated large deposits of titanium and magnetite ores. The city of Kachkanar lies southeast of the massif.
