Kadanoff, Leo P. (Philip) (1937– ) physicist; born in New York City. He taught at the University of Illinois: Urbana (1962–69) and Brown University (1969–78), before joining the University of Chicago (1978). He made major contributions to solid state physics, quantum statistical mechanics, and pressure- and temperature-induced changes in matter.
