Kadri, Fat’ma Kadyrovna 

Born Apr. 1 (14), 1907, in Odessa; died Feb. 29, 1968, in Baku. Soviet Azerbaijani actress. People’s Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1943). Member of the CPSU from 1943.

In 1926, Kadri graduated from the pedagogical and theatrical technicums in Baku and began performing in the Turkic Workers’ Theater. Between 1932 and 1935 she worked in the Baku Russian Theater. Beginning in 1935 she was one of the leading actresses of the M. Azizbekov Azerbaijan Theater in Baku. The characters she created have gone down in the history of Azerbaijani theatrical art. They included Giul’tekin, Solmaz, and Sona in Dzhabarly’s Aidyn, The Bride of the Fire, and In 1905; Mukhabbet in Ibragimov’s play of the same name; Khuraman in Samed Vurgun’s Vagif; Larisa and Katerina in Ostrovskii’s The Poor Bride and The Storm; and Juliet in Shakespeare’s play. Kadri taught in the theatrical technicum and later in the M. A. Aliev Azerbaijan Theatrical Institute. Her work has played an important role in the development of theatrical art in Azerbaijan and in the training of actors and directors. She was awarded two orders and various medals.
