potassium dichromate [pə′tas·ē·əm dī′krō‚māt]
(inorganic chemistry)
K2Cr2O7Poisonous, yellowish-red crystals with metallic taste; soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol; melts at 396°C, decomposes at 500°C; used as an oxidizing agent and analytical reagent, and in explosives, matches, and electroplating. Also known as potassium bichromate; red potassium chromate.
