Kalinin, University of
The university was founded in 1971 on the basis of a pedagogical institute created in 1918. In 1972 the university comprised the departments of history, philology, Romance and Germanic philology, law, economics, mathematics, physics, and chemistry and biology. It has a division preparing people for entry into the university, an evening division, and a correspondence school. It also has a graduate school, 34 subdepartments, nearly 50 study laboratories, and a scientific research center. There were 6, 000 students studying at the university in the 1972–73 academic year.
