Kalinovskaia, Valentina Fedorovna
Born July 21, 1938, in Kiev. Soviet ballerina. People’s Artist of the USSR (1968). A graduate of the Kiev Choreographic School, Kalinovskaiahas been dancing at the T. G. Shevchenko Opera and Ballet Theater since 1957. Technically perfect, her dancing is charac-terized by light jumps, a lyrical adagio, and a brilliant allegro.She is best suited for dramatic roles. Her best roles includeOdette-Odile in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Aegina in Kha-chaturian’s Spartacus, Kitri in Minkus’ Don Quixote, Zarema inAsaf’ev’s The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Mekhmene Banu inMelikov’s The Legend of Love, and Dona Anna in Gubarenko’s The Stone Ruler.
