Kalispell (kăl`ĭspĕl', –pĕl`), city (1990 pop. 11,917), seat of Flathead co., NW Mont., at the head of Flathead Lake near Glacier National Park; inc. 1892. It is the tourist and trade center of a rich agricultural and timber region. Fruit, grains, and beans are grown; livestock is raised; and there is manufacturing, including lumber, furniture, processed foods, meat and dairy products, and semiconductor equipment. The headquarters of the Flathead National Forest are in Kalispell. Hungry Horse Dam and Reservoir is nearby. How to thank TFD for its existence? | On November 22 of last year, Kalispell resident Carmen Williams and her boyfriend, Jake Jensen, were preparing to leave for California the next day to attend college when, near a money drop outside First Interstate Bank on the city's main street, Williams virtually stumbled across a deposit bag. Responding to complaints from local residents, Americans United's Legal Department wrote to officials in Kalispell Feb. Three Rivers Bank of Montana, Kalispell, and Valley Bank of Kalispell already are utilizing the center to support operations. |
