Kalix 

a river in northern Sweden. Length, from the source of the Kaitum River, 450 km; basin area, 17, 900 sq km. The river originates on the slopes of Mount Kebnekaise. There are waterfalls on the river. The upper course of the Kalix passes through several lakes; the river flows into the Gulf of Bothnia. High water is in summer, and the river freezes from November to early May. It is used to float logs and to generate hydroelectric power.
