Kamloops (kăm`l ps), city (1991 pop. 67,057), S British Columbia, Canada, at the junction of the North Thompson and South Thompson rivers. A trading post was first established on the site in 1812. A village grew up at the time of the Cariboo gold rush (1860), and in 1885 the main line of the Canadian Pacific reached Kamloops. A transportation, finance, and administrative center, Kamloops supplies the surrounding mining, lumbering and farming districts. It is also the center of British Columbia's cattle industry and a growing tourist site. |
