Kander, Lizzie Black (1858–1940) settlement founder, cookbook writer; born in Milwaukee, Wis. She was president of the Milwaukee Jewish Mission and its successor, the Settlement (1896–1918). Her Settlement Cook Book (1901), compiled in conjunction with a Settlement cooking class, sold over a million copies and funded the Milwaukee Jewish Center.
