Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, on the east coast of Oahu, protected by coral reefs and dotted with islands. The shores of the bay are rimmed with ancient fishponds built by the Hawaiian chiefs. Patrol Squadron (VP) 8, with assistance from VP-4 (based at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii), repositioned nine P-3C Orion aircraft from air bases in Japan and Bahrain to Utapao, Thailand, and Diego Garcia, B. In June 1983, Brigadier General Robling reported to Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia and upon graduation returned to MCAS Kaneohe Bay for duty with VMFA-235. He was stationed at the Naval Air Station at Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked. |
