Kannabikh, Iurii Vladimirovich
Born Sept. 23 (Oct. 5), 1872, in St. Petersburg, died Feb. 3, 1939, in Moscow. Soviet psychiatrist. Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1937). Kannabikh graduated from the division of natural history of Moscow University in 1896 and from the department of medicine there in 1899, then took his specialization in E. Kraepelin’s clinic. He became a professor of psychiatry at the University of Turkestan (Tashkent) in 1920. In 1921 he began working in various higher educational institutions and scientific-research organizations in Moscow. He became chairman of the sub- department of psychiatry at the Third Moscow Medical Institute in 1936. Kannabikh’s studies on cyclothymia, borderline states, and psychoneuroses are widely known.
