Kanthal
an iron-based heat-resistant alloy containing approximately 22 percent chromium, 5 percent aluminium, and 0. 5percent cobalt. A number of varieties of kanthal, whose differentperformance characteristics depend mainly on the special features of their production processes, are manufactured in Sweden. The alloys are characterized by high electric resistivity (up to1. 45 megohmmeters) and heat resistance (up to 1375°C). Themelting point of kanthal is approximately 1510°C. Kanthal isused in wire or strip form primarily for the manufacture ofheating elements for electric furnaces. It is similar to the chromal-type OKh23Iu5A and OKh27Iu5A alloys manufactured inthe USSR.
