Kanun

Kanun 

a plucked stringed musical instrument. Its use is widespread in the Middle East. In the USSR the kanun is played in Armenia. Its flat body measures 800–900 mm, and it has 24 strings. The kanun is tuned diatonically. The sound is produced with a plectrum worn on the finger. The plectrum resembles a thimble.

The tradition of the female patriarch can be traced to a strict code of conduct, the Kanun of Leke Dukagjini, passed on orally among the clans of northern Albania for more than 500 years.
The ensembles consist of musicians playing the Oud, Kanun, Nay, Kamanja and Darabukkah.
