Karcag (kŏr`tsŏg), city (1991 est. pop. 23,650), E Hungary. A road and rail junction, Karcag is an important communications point.
Karcag 

a city in eastern Hungary, in the megye (district) ofSzolnok. Population, 24, 600 (1970). There is extraction of natu-ral gas, as well as food-processing industry (flour mills and rice-polishing), a glassworks, and a brickyard. Most of the populaceis engaged in agriculture.

Karcag Off Highway 4, south of Debrecen, on the western side of the Hortobagy National Park, is a hotel with an excellent restaurant.
Rudnai and Gulyas (1998) reported an increase in spontaneous abortions, stillbirths, and perinatal mortality in Karcag, Hungary, due to arsenic in drinking water.
The rumor spread in Kunmadaras, that Jews made sausage out of Christian children, and it was said that in the nearby town of Karcag several christian children had mysteriously disappeared.
