Karimata 

a strait between the islands of Borneo (Kaliman-tan) and Belitung in Indonesia, linking the South China and Javaseas. At its narrowest point, it is approximately 210 km wide. Itreaches a depth of 36 m. Coral reefs and many small islands arelocated in the strait.

On 7 August the Coromandel, a trading vessel that had sailed from Calcutta via Penang, became stranded in the Karimata Islands off West Borneo.
The archipelagic sea lane that is used to exercise the right of archipelagic sea lane passage for navigation between the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean or in the opposite direction, for traversing the Natuna Sea, the Karimata Strait, the Java Sea and the Sunda Strait is Archipelagic Sea Lane I, which constitutes the axis connecting points I-1 to 1-15 as described in the List of Coordinates and explained in article 12, paragraph 2.
Granddam Karimata, a sub-30 seconds Cork winner, came from the same litter as the 1991 Derby semi-finalist Colwin and Barbary Bonner, runner-up for Youghal's Southern Sprint and third in Cork's Guinness Trophy.
