Karlsbad Salt

a salt obtained by evaporating the spring waters at the resort of Karlovy Vary (Czechoslovakia).

Karlsbad salt is used as a laxative and cholagogue. Artificial Karlsbad salt contains 44 parts sodium sulfate, 36 parts sodiumhydrocarbonate, 18 parts sodium chloride, and two parts potas-sium sulfate. Dissolving 6 g artificial Karlsbad salt in a liter ofwater forms a solution that corresponds in salt concentrations tothe water of the springs at Karlovy Vary.
