Karlskrona

Karlskrona (kärlskr`nä), city (1990 pop. 31,100), capital of Blekinge co., SE Sweden, on the Baltic Sea. It is a seaport and fishing center with a large modern port. The city has been the headquarters of the Swedish navy since 1679 and has many service-connected industries. Manufactures include ships, plastics, atomic reactors, telephones, canned goods, porcelain, and electrical bulbs. A naval museum is in the city. A variant spelling is Carlscrona.

Karlskrona is a center of shipbuildingand electrical engineering (telephones and telephone equip-ment). Porcelain and glazed tile are produced in the city, and itis a base for the fishing industry fleet.
