Karogs
(Banner), a monthly literary and sociopolitical jour-nal; the organ of the Writers’ Union of the Latvian SSR. It wasfirst published in Riga in September 1940. During the GreatPatriotic War of 1941–45, Karogs was issued in Moscow as ayearly anthology of Latvian literature. The journal’s editors haveincluded A. Upits (1940–46), I. Muižnieks (1946–48), A. Balo-dis (1948–63), K. Kraulin’ (1964–67), and A. Veian (since1967). Latvian literature and translations of the literature of theother peoples of the USSR are published in Karogs.
