Died 1638. One of the leaders of a popular uprising in the Ukraine against the oppression of feudal Poland in 1637–38. Colonel of the Zaporozh’e Army. Skidan fought in the uprising of 1637 led by Pavliuk (seeBUT, PAVEL MIKHNOVICH). He organized rebel detachments from the Kiev area and Poltava. Supported by only some of the cossacks, he suffered defeat near Kumeiki and Borovitsa. He fled to Zaporozh’e, from where he resumed the uprising in the spring of 1638.
