Karranay
a wind instrument, a brass horn with a straight(less frequently, curved) tube and a large bell. Total length, 3 m.The sound is powerful and deep; and the scale is natural. The karranay was formerly used in Middle Asia and Iran as a mili-tary (signal) instrument. It was subsequently used duringceremonial processions of khans and military leaders. The kar-ranay was among the instruments in ensembles of strolling musi-cians. It is used in the Tadzhik SSR and the Uzbek SSR as aceremonial instrument at parades, demonstrations, and massfetes.
