Karur (kərr`), city (1991 pop. 113,669), Tamil Nadu state, S central India. Milled rice, cotton fabrics, and brassware are the city's chief products. According to Hindu legend, Brahma began the work of creation in Karur, which is referred to as the "place of the sacred cow."
