Kaya, Seiji 

Born Dec. 21, 1898, in Kanagawa Prefecture. Japanese physicist.

Kaya graduated from Tohoku University in Sendai (1923). He is a doctor of physicomathematical sciences (1929). He was a professor at the University of Hokkaido from 1931 to 1943 and the Technological Institute in Tokyo from 1941 to 1948. Kaya became a professor at the University of Tokyo in 1943 and was rector there from 1958 to 1960. He has been vice-president of the Japanese Science Council since 1954. Kaya’s main works have been devoted to the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic crystals. He became a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1958.
