Kazei, Marat
Born Oct. 10, 1929, in the village of Stan’-kovo, Dzerzhinsk Raion, Minsk Oblast; died May 11, 1944, in the village of Khorometskoe, Uzda Raion, Minsk Oblast. Pioneer; member of the partisan movement in Byelorussia in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). Hero of the Soviet Union (May 8, 1965). Kazei joined the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of October Partisan Detachment in November 1942 and then became a reconnaissance scout on the staff of the K. K. Rokossovskii Partisan Brigade. Surrounded by fascists on a reconnaissance mission, he killed himself with a grenade. Kazei was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War First Class and the medals For Bravery and For Combat Service.
