Keeley, James (1867–1934) journalist; born in London, England. Emigrating in 1883, he began as a reporter for the Kansas City Times; in his first big story, he tracked down and apprehended a murder suspect in a swamp. As general manager of the Chicago Tribune from 1898, he shaped it into an omnibus newspaper with many features, including an innovative "Friend of the People" column for readers with grievances.
