In south-central TX, northwest of San Antonio; organized Jan 10, 1862 from Kerr and Blanco counties. Name Origin: For George Wilkins Kendall (1809-67), a founder of the New Orleans Picayune and Republic of TX army officer.

Pop 2005: 28,607. State rank: 93. Pop change: 2000-20005 20.50%; 1990-2000 62.70%. Pop 2000: 23,743 (White 80.50%; Black or African American 0.30%; Hispanic or Latino 17.90%; Asian 0.20%; Other 6.50%). Foreign born: 5.60%. Median age: 39.30.

In northeastern IL, southwest of Chicago; organized Feb 19, 1841 from La Salle and Kane counties. Name Origin: For Amos Kendall (1789-1869), U.S. postmaster general (1835-40) and publisher of the Washington Evening Star.
