Kenneth Dubuque Memorial State Forest Location: Within Hawley, Plainfield, and Savoy, in the northern Berkshires in western Massachusetts; entrance is off Route 8A in Hawley. Facilities: Wilderness campsites, mixed-use trails (35 miles), hiking trails (6 miles), interpretive trail (1 mile, around Hallockville Pond), historic sites. Activities: Camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting (with restrictions), cross-country skiing, snowmobiling. Special Features: Park has many historic and archeological features, including remains of the long-abandoned village of South Hawley, a rare "beehive" charcoal kiln, and a natural mineral spring said to have healing attributes.
