Kent, Jacob (1726–1812) soldier, public official; born in Chebacco (now Essex), Mass. Veteran of the French and Indian War, and a founder of the state of Vermont, he led militia forces during the American Revolution, participating in the series of battles that led to the British surrender at Saratoga in October 1777.
